A Small Town Girl (Part 3)

The sun was drawn from the window. The kitchen window settled perfectly where there were the most exquisite succulents sucking up all the beautiful energies of the sun coming through and radiated into the house. Every now and then she’d look out and wonder where the day would take her. She was up before the children as usual. Having a couple hours to herself in the morning was crucial. She was planning out their day and wondering what all the other homeschooling Mommas were going to be doing. It was a beautiful spring day and she knew she’d get the children to their local agricultural farming areas for some good old fashion learning and fun.

She heard footsteps as she knew they’d start waking up soon. It must have been the smell of fresh muffins in the oven. This was all knew to them. There was no more hustle and bustling in the morning to catch any buses. It always bothered her how rushed everyone was in the morning. She never liked the fact that school always started so early. Knowing her children were sitting in a classroom all day blew her mind. Everything was done on smart boards and computers. There was little to no interaction anymore and it was not something she wanted for her children.

She always dreamt of mornings such as these, although the children were still getting used it. Day by day they grew to love it more and more. They all made many friends in the area and she was grateful for all the friends she has made as well. Everyone was like-minded and everyone accepted her and her children with open arms within the community.

Come to think of it she never really had many friends back in the suburban towns of Long Island. She had her family and a few friends she knew for over thirty years. When it came to other Mommas in the district she just never really had much in common with them. “It was just so different here”, she found herself saying that to herself many times throughout the day. She was always waiting for the bomb to drop with her children. She thought it was going to be a lot harder on them. I know kids are resilient, however this was not what she had expected. I am sure they will have their days and she was ready to help them through with whatever they needed.

Everyone was ready and they were off to encounter their first day of school. Everything was all set up, the books had been delivered and the appointments were made at the farm. The first part of the day was going to be agricultural farming. We were meeting others there and the lesson of the day had to do with growing crops. The children were dressed in their attire and they were off!

She still contemplated how the heck she was going to be a homeschooling Momma! Her worries were natural, she was sure of it. She was lucky enough to have the support of the community who has already taught her so much in the little amount of time they have been there. There was a lovely couple down the road who has already been by a few times to help her with the wood-burning stove being that the nights were still a bit cool.

The one thing she kept was her truck. Everything else had been sold upon the passing of her husband. She is glad she kept it. They still had family and friends back on the island and she knew she’d need it. She also figured she could be of service to others in the area if need be. She was very quick to come into the towns bartering system where everyone helped each other out. It was a lifestyle she had always dreamed of. Still, it wasn’t suppose to happen this way. As soon as she said that to herself the coyote started howling. It’s as if he heard her and she knows that he did. It was his way of saying, “I miss you too and I’ll be guiding you forever”.

Until next time…

A New Beginning Requires Confidence And Faith

New Beginnings start with an incredible amount of confidence and an enormous amount of faith. When the opportunity arises to step out of our comfort zone fear sometimes takes over and it’s almost as if we try to talk ourselves out of going for whatever strikes. Opportunities may sometimes be a once in a lifetime […]

Living The Dream

Ever say hello to someone and then proceed with, “How are you”? “Living the dream”, they say! Okay, so seriously….What in the actual fuck does that mean? I smile and wonder what their dreams actually are. The phrase is always said in a sarcastic manner. Are you stuck in a job you do not want […]
