A Small Town Girl (Part 19)
The babies were kicking up a storm and we were now able to actually feel their kicks from the outside too. It was such a special time for us all, especially his, being this was his first experience. I still could not wrap my head around the fact that we were going to be welcoming not one but two little ones into our lives in just a few short months. We started getting the nursery together and making a little nook in our bedroom for sleepless nights. I knew there would be many, there always is. And, now there will be double. Double of everything. The joys of parenthood! This time was going to be so different being we were both home and the responsibilities would be shared. That is something I was not used to raising the others. I was really excited about that.
We had our 30 week sonogram coming up to decide whether we were going to have to have a c-section or not, and it needed to be scheduled if we were. My neighbor from across the lake has been watching the children for us, they still love going there. She spoils them like any other Grandma would. We pulled up to the house and I already smelled her fresh baked cookies and pie from the driveway. I was told to pack an overnight bag just in case they wanted to stay. They always fall sleep there and it’s easier to just leave them be rather than wake them up and have to put them in the car. So, I did just that. I figured we could use all the free time we can get before the babies were born. It was a really exciting time for all of us. We only had about eight weeks to go and lots of things to do beforehand.
6 Months Later…
Both of our families were coming to visit. We were having the babies birth celebration. It was really just an excuse to get everyone together to see them and have everyone under the same roof for a long weekend. They were now a little over 3 months old and it’s been a while since everyone came to visit. Everyone’s schedules are busy. I had so much to do to get ready for everyone’s arrival. The guest rooms were finally finished and they’d be much more comfortable here than staying in a hotel. Plus, they did night time feedings when they were here, I was very much looking forward to that. My nieces were very excited about it too!
Everyone had arrived. I heard the cars pull into the driveway and all the children came running outside to greet their cousins. Vishnu came and stood by the lake as he watched everyone gather around the baby. He saw me look over and he ran away. My mother-in law glanced over at me and gave me her genuine smile. I knew we were both on the same page. We always were. That was definitely no surprise. A few of the kids noticed him to as I heard one of them say, “Vishnu, Vishnu!” It was still very warming to my heart that he also knew exactly why he shows up when he does. There are certain things in life that are magical, I said. And, I left it at that.
The boys wanted to go down by the lake to go fishing and the girls, of course, wanted to stay by the house to soak up every ounce of baby time that they could. “There’s one for each of you, I said.” They both looked at me and smiled along with their cute little laugh. Both grandmas had to give them up at some point. Baby hogs! Me niece called out and we all laughed! They weren’t used to being in small arms so it took some time for them to warm up to the idea of being passed over. I was pleasantly surprised that they were both so good with them. “You girls are naturals!” I looked over at my sister and told her it was time to have another one. “Shops closed!” I can understand that for sure. She had one of each and her and her husband were just getting used to their new careers. It’s amazing how different we all were. I have always been, “A Small Town Girl”, as my sisters called me. The life here was very different. I could not imagine having it any other way at his point. I don’t think my children could either. It still amazes me how everything happened. It was just a short couple years ago that I found myself always trying to figure everything out. Nothing ever came easy. That’s all over and in the past. It was time to make new memories. Everything was manifested along the way and I couldn’t be happier.
Until next time…
