A Small Town Girl (Part 6)

Summer was officially here. School was out and it was all fun from here on in. Not that everyday isn’t like that. Sometimes I have to remind myself of that. Everything was so different, everyday was like an adventure. Luckily, the kids like to sleep in a bit although I am not too sure if that will be the case anymore! Our rooster is up at the crack of dawn. It’s still the most amazing sound and a dream come true.

My sister and I had a couple hours to ourselves before everyone was awake. “I can get used to this lifestyle”, she said with a smile. I replied, “It’s glorious. There’s no more hustle and bustle. I left that life behind me and I’ll never go back to that”. Our coffee was freshly ground and brewed, always. I buy it by the five pound bag at our local town store. My sister took one sip and I swear it looked as if she just went to heaven. There’s something about moments with coffee and my sister. It brings me back to our childhood and teenage years.

I went out back to gather some eggs and pick some veggies for the omelet I was making and told her to relax. I was just prepping a bit. After I was done I refilled our cups and we just sat. We were silent for a bit just soaking in the sun and the beautiful scenery. I took a deep sigh and wondered a tad. I don’t like to think too much. Overthinking was something I have been working really hard on not doing. I’m finding that it’s a lot easier not to where we are now. The relaxed lifestyle is doing wonders for my mind.

“How’s our sister, have you spoken to her?”, I ask. “She’s doing ok. She’s working a lot and hoping she can take some time off to come visit”, she replied. It would be awesome to have you all here at the same time. I don’t have much room but we can surely make due. We’d have a blast! Speak of the devil! I just received a text from her asking how everything is going. I just replied, “Wish you were here”.

I heard a car pull into the driveway. I wasn’t expecting anyone and it was only 10am. I got up to go see who it is and to my surprise it was my Mom and my sister and niece! “Oh my god”, I yelled! I was so happy to see them. The children heard all of the commotion and came running down the stairs. This time no one had any idea. “I had way too much FOMO not to take a couple days off from work and join you guys. The pictures posted on facebook are truly amazing. I had to see this place for myself”, she said. We all hugged, and of course took a selfie. It’s never legit without a selfie!

The children went out back to feed all of our chickens and rooster and Vishnu came by for a visit too. He just stood there knowing we had new company and he he didn’t want to scare anyone. I heard everyone catch my niece up on who he was. I saw her smile from afar.  And, of course the littlest looked back to wink at me with a smile that lit up my soul. My sisters and Mom  already knew about Vishnu because  we were very caught up on our daily texting communications and FaceTime. I never thought I’d be so grateful in my life for technology until I was living a couple hours away from my family. It’s all of these little things that have made our move a lot easier. Now that I know they were going to come visit often I was even more satisfied with it all. My sisters and I have an unbreakable bond and that was absolutely proven in this moment.

Our neighbors daughter from down the street came by to see what all of the playful yelling was about and asked if she can come over. “Come on in”, I said. She quickly came in and went out back and introduced herself to everyone. She hit it off right away with them all, especially my nieces. They were around the same age with lots to talk about. Within ten minutes they had their phones out and they were all doing their dances for TikTok. It was a pretty awesome view if you ask me.

All was good in my mind, body and soul. Everyday we became more at peace with everything that has happened. It all just happened so quickly. I guess sometimes that is what life was all about. And, we just have to roll with it and go with the flow. If you asked me last year where I saw my life it most certainly wasn’t here. Not the way it had happened at least. Somehow it all started to make sense to me in a way where I can’t quite explain.

Until next time…

A New Beginning Requires Confidence And Faith

New Beginnings start with an incredible amount of confidence and an enormous amount of faith. When the opportunity arises to step out of our comfort zone fear sometimes takes over and it’s almost as if we try to talk ourselves out of going for whatever strikes. Opportunities may sometimes be a once in a lifetime […]

Living The Dream

Ever say hello to someone and then proceed with, “How are you”? “Living the dream”, they say! Okay, so seriously….What in the actual fuck does that mean? I smile and wonder what their dreams actually are. The phrase is always said in a sarcastic manner. Are you stuck in a job you do not want […]
